What is Pilates?

Pilates is an innovative and safe system of mind-body exercise using a floor mat and/or a variety of specialized equipment. It can dramatically transform the way your body feels, looks and performs.

Pilates is a safe, sensible exercise method that teaches body awareness, good posture and easy, graceful movement. It strengthens the whole body with every exercise starting from the activation of core muscles. Pilates also improves flexibility and increases range of movement. It can even help reduce back and joint pains which often caused by muscle imbalance.

The most beautiful aspect of Pilates is its flexibility. No matter what your age or condition, Pilates will work for you. An experienced Pilates instructor is capable to modify the exercises to suit your level or condition.

In recent years, Pilates has been popular for rehabilitation. Researches have proven that Pilates can be effective treatment for many conditions, including chronic neck and back pain, scoliosis, knee and hip replacement and other conditions.

Pilates is for all ages and fitness levels. It is the safest and most effective method of exercise. Because every Pilates exercise starts with activation of core muscles, it strengthens one’s core very quickly. Pilates helps athletes perform better, improves posture, and heal joint pains which often due to muscle weakness. Pilates is especially beneficial to those with behind-the-desk type jobs, after surgery, post pregnancy, and anyone who wish to develop a stronger and more balanced body.
Mobility training is a series of exercises that improve your range motion, balance, strength and control in your joints and muscles. The goal is to help you move more freely and efficiently, and to improve your physical performance.

Flexibility is the ability of the soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments) to passively stretch. Mobility, on the other hand, is the joint’s ability to actively move through its full range of motion.

Good mobility require flexibility in the muscles and other soft tissues surrounding the joint. But mobility aslo require strength and stability. So it’s possible for an individual to be flexible but lack of mobility.

Private 1-on-1 is the best and most effective way of practicing Pilates and mobility training. The exercises are carefully selected to help you achieve your personal fitness goals; at the same time, they can be modified according to your current physical condition. During a private 1-on-1 session, your whole-body workout will be safely instructed using a combination of  apparatus.

At WellFit4EVER a regular private session lasts 45 or 55 minutes. The initial session may take up to 65 minutes. During this initial session, I will first conduct a postural assessment on you then will take you through a set of exercises in which I will identify your range of movement and any muscle imbalance. Based on these findings and information shared by you and your physical therapist (if you have seen a therapist), I will design an exercise program just for you.

It depends on the level of your daily/weekly activities. If you are not involved in any other fitness activity, you should practice more frequently (like a daily routine). On the other hand, if you are very active with other sports or fitness programs, one or two  sessions a week may be enough. For best results, I  recommend to at least 2 full training sessions in studio with me per week and short mobility self-practice session every day (homework I usually give out to clients).

Virtual group class is 55-60 minutes long. Private sessions are 45 and 55 minutes (prices are different). The duration of private sessions depend on client’s preference and ability.
